Coastal Carolina Community College (CCCC) offers the Educating the Childcare Workforce program.
It can be scary to go back to school, and early educators and child care professionals may face barriers to pursuing college level education. The Professional Development Coordinator works to assist early educators as they pursue their education and further their careers in the child care industry. From assisting with locating financial aid to walking you through the registration process, the Professional Development Coordinator supports early educators and child care professionals each step of the way. The Onslow County Partnership for Children is proud to offer this program that has helped so many achieve their goals. Picture yourself in a cap and gown, walking across a stage to accept your degree! It's more possible than you think. Contact Tracy Figgins at (910) 938-6140 or at figginst@coastalcarolina.edu.
Louise Biller and Associates offers the Partners for Inclusion program.
Two clinical level social workers are available to assist child care providers by performing clinical level observations in child care programs. The clinicians are available to provide referrals to parents of children who present challenging behaviors or may have other developmental challenges. Through consultation with child care teachers and directors, strategies can be developed to modify routines or the classroom environment for children with special behavioral or developmental needs. With the goals of improving early intervention rates and decreasing the rate of expulsion or dismissal of children from child care, the program provides helpful information, referrals and more to ensure the success of all children. For more information or to request services for your licensed child care center, contact Louise Biller at (910) 347-7994 or at lbbiller@embarqmail.com.
PEERS Family Development Center offers the following programs:
The Incredible Years Basic Parent Training Series
Incredible Years training programs give parents and teachers strategies to manage behaviors such as aggressiveness, ongoing tantrums, and acting out behavior such as swearing, whining, yelling, hitting and kicking, answering back, and refusing to follow rules.
Through using a range of strategies, parents and teachers help children regulate their emotions and improve their social skills so that they can get along better with peers and adults, and do better academically. It can also mean a more enjoyable family life (copied from incredibleyears.com).
Teen Adolescent Parenting Program
This program serves first time moms through case management, group meetings, home visits and other services. The program strives to help pregnant or parenting teens finish high school and delay a second pregnancy while establishing a positive parent-child relationship and reducing the risk for abuse or neglect of children.
Parent Education Enhancement
Parent Education Enhancement offers parent trainings for both prevention of child abuse and intervention in families with higher levels of need. We all know that parenting is a tough job, and through classes like the Nurturing Parent Program, parents learn strategies for parenting that help lead to positive outcomes for children and families.
